That's exactly what I mean: there are situations & professions (way too many) when pearls are de rigeur.
But the rest of us who are not that high up the social-professional ladder and still wear pearls...aren't we just be a bit...lazy? or afraid to experiment?
That reminds me: I still have to go back (hmm, the draft is in London) to finish the classification of people with regard to their jewelry-wearing patterns....

Passing the law to make them extinct won't help (plus we are against Draconian measures), but injecting humor might make things better!
